Getting Started
This guide walks you through installing Conduit, creating your encrypted vault, and connecting to your first server.
Installation
Download the latest release from the download page. Conduit is available for macOS (Apple Silicon), Windows (x64), and Linux. Run the installer and launch the app.
On first launch, a splash screen appears immediately while the application loads. It fades out once the interface is ready, ensuring a smooth startup experience with no blank white flash.
Create a Vault
When you first launch Conduit, you will be prompted to create a vault with a master password. This password encrypts all stored credentials using AES-256 encryption. Every time you open the app you will need to unlock the vault with this password.
Master password cannot be recovered
There is no way to reset or recover your master password. If you forget it, you will lose access to all stored credentials. Keep it somewhere safe.
Add Your First Connection
Click the + button in the sidebar or press Cmd/Ctrl+E to open the Quick Connect dialog. Choose a protocol:
- SSH — Terminal sessions to Linux, macOS, or any SSH-enabled host.
- RDP — Remote Desktop to Windows machines.
- VNC — Screen sharing to any VNC server.
- Web — Embedded browser for web-based panels and appliances.
- Command — Run a local command or script with output displayed in a read-only terminal.
- Document — Markdown documents for runbooks, notes, and reference material.
Fill in the host, port, and credentials. Credentials can be entered inline or pulled from the vault.
Connect
Double-click an entry in the sidebar or right-click and select Open. Sessions open in tabs — you can have multiple sessions open simultaneously and switch between them with Cmd/Ctrl+Tab.
Single-clicking an entry opens its dashboard, where you can view connection details, edit the entry, or use Open in External App to launch the connection in your system's default application (e.g. Terminal for SSH, Screen Sharing for VNC). You can also right-click an entry and select View Info to pin the dashboard as a persistent tab that stays open alongside active sessions.
Optional: Sign In
Create a Conduit account for cloud sync, vault backup, and access to more AI models. The app works fully offline without an account — signing in simply unlocks additional features.
